falcon, 45, dies after crash in dakar rally

Carles Falcon fell during the second stage of the Dakar Rally on 7 January

Motorcyclist Carles Falcon has died just over a week after crashing in the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, his team said on Monday.

The 45-year-old Spaniard had been in an induced coma in hospital with severe injuries following the crash on 7 January.

Race director David Castera confirmed at the time Falcon had no pulse but was resuscitated by a doctor on the scene.

“Carles has left us,” the TwinTrail Racing team said on Instagram.

“The medical team has confirmed that the neurological damage caused by the cardiorespiratory arrest at the time of the accident is irreversible.

“Carles was a smiling person, always active, who passionately enjoyed everything he did, especially motorbikes. He has left us doing something that was his dream, racing the Dakar.”
