On Friday evening, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs faced off against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in California.
The game was close, but the Lakers were able to win by a score of 123-118.
That said, Wembanyama had another good game and put up 27 points, ten rebounds, eight assists, five steals and five blocks while shooting 7/16 from the field and 3/8 from the three-point range in 31 minutes of playing time.
His stat line also made NBA history.
Via NBA History: “With his performance tonight, Victor Wembanyama becomes the 15th player and the 22nd instance in NBA history to record a 5×5 (PTS-REB-AST-STL-BLK) game, since 1973-74 when blocks and steals became official.
At 20y, 50d old, he is the youngest player since tracking began to have such a game (previously: Andrei Kirilenko, 22y, 288d old).”
Wembanyama is having a fantastic season and will have an excellent chance to win the 2024 Rookie of The Year Award.
The 20-year-old is averaging 20.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 3.3 blocks per contest while shooting 46.6% from the field and 31.8% from the three-point range in 51 games.
With the loss, the Spurs dropped to 11-46 in their first 57 games, which has them as the 15th seed (last place) in the Western Conference.
They are 1-9 over their last ten games and also in the middle of a three-game losing streak.
Following the Lakers, the Spurs will now visit the Utah Jazz on Sunday.
