On February 2, Phil predicted an early spring during the largest and best known Groundhog Day celebration in the country in Gobbler’s Knob
He composed a song based on the longstanding myth that Phil has been alive since 1886 and is fed a sip of the ‘elixir of life’ on every Groundhog Day that extends his life for seven more years.
But according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, Phyliss, his wife, is unfortunately not offered the same elixir and is not given her own immortality.
In a FAQ section, the Club wrote: ‘Her name is Phyliss. She doesn’t receive the Elixir of Life so she will not live forever like Phil.’
Some of Richman’s lyrics, which are written from Phil’s point of view, are: ‘Nothing’s supposed to live forever, Phyliss.
‘Nothing’s supposed to last that long. The burrows we made will eventually fade and I’ll be left to sing the same old song.’
The TikTok video currently has five million views and nearly 550,000 likes.

Handlers are allowed to pet Phil, his being Pennsylvania resident and Groundhog Club member AJ Dereume
If he’s not eating veggies or spending time with his wife Phyliss, the club stated that Phil ‘enjoys a good book and reading the daily newspaper’
One user criticized Phil for lying about the early coming of spring so he could ‘impress them/live forever’ while many others wrote songs as the Punxsutawney Mayor.
This is not the first time TikTok has nearly produced its own Broadway show. In 2020, users banded together to create ‘Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical’, based on the 2007 Disney movie, Ratatouille.
In 2021, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear created ‘The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical,’ based on Season 1 of the show on Netflix.
The duo won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album in 2022 but were later sued by Netflix.
