LS polls: Seat sharing between Cong, SP in final stage, says KC Venugopal

Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal on Tuesday categorically said the discussion on seat-sharing between the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) elections are in the final stage.

The statement of the Venugopal, Congress’ national general secretary in-charge of organization, came a day after SP president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav that he would join the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY), which is currently in the state, only after an arrangements on seat-sharing for the general elections.

In response to questions on seat-sharing with the SP, he said, “It is in the final stage. Anytime it can be finalized. The discussion is going on.”

The senior Congress leader further said, “We are in process. Our alliance team is there. Congress president has appointed a team of alliance. They are discussing it with everybody. We hope that solution will come.”

Notably, the Congress National Alliance Committee (NAC) headed by Mukul Wasnik has been holding meetings with the parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc on seat-sharing.

Earlier, the panel had held meetings with the senior leaders of the SP in the national capital.

On Monday, chief of the SP said, “There were several rounds of talks between the two parties which have exchanged lists of candidates. Yet nothing concrete has happened. Let an agreement emerge, only then will I join the Congress yatra.”
