Leaders should be ‘straight up’ about their mental health: New Zealand Prime Minister
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says it is important for leaders to be “straight up” about their mental health and it is important there is no “stigma attached to it”.
Former Australian prime minister Scott Morrison has recently revealed his struggle with anxiety during his time leading Australia, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think it is pretty important that people are straight up about where they are with their mental health,” Mr Luxon told Sky News host Erin Molan.
“It’s important that we don’t have stigma attached to it.
“What we’re working very hard in New Zealand is making sure we have access to mental health facilities and services.
“For me, personally, what I’ve discovered in the job or what I’ve learnt is you first and foremost have to have a really good family unit around you and friends that care about you because of who you are, not because of what you do.”
