The latest COVID-19 figures have been released following the lifting of most restrictions on Friday evening.
The Department of Health has been notified of 2,427 new cases of COVID-19 in the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.
There are 449 patients with COVID-19 in hospital, with 93 of those in intensive care.
Saturday’s figures come following the reopening of nightclubs on Friday night.
Last-minute briefings were held on Friday afternoon, in which the Government announced new restrictions just hours before clubs opened doors.
The Government confirmed to industry representatives that nightclubs and live events must operate on a ticket-only basis.
This will not apply to newly-reopened nightclubs until next week.
This ticketing strategy will allow for contact tracing to operate as required by Government.
The move was slammed by Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI), describing the new rules as ‘impossible to implement’.
The VFI has suggested that the requirement will lead to ‘public order incidents’ as large ticketless crowds gather outside clubs.
VFI Chief Executive Padraig Cribben said on Friday evening: ‘When it comes to reopening guidelines for the late-night sector the government appear to be all over the place with no practical knowledge of how the sector operates.
‘Yesterday it was suggested events would be all ticket only for that stipulation to be removed from the guidelines, yet hours before clubs reopen tickets will once again be mandatory.
‘This really has been a shambolic process from the press conference last Tuesday to this last-minute senseless U-turn.
‘We now have a situation where clubs can sell tickets at the door this weekend but must move to ticket only in advance by next week.’
Paul Reid has announced the HSE will run a ‘number of initiatives’ to encourage more young people to avail of the COVID vaccine.
‘We’re running a number of initiatives to increase uptake of those unvacvinated. If you are unvaccinated, please listen to the facts and evidence,’ he said.
‘Our ICU consultants can clearly outline the disproportionately high number of younger unvaccinated people they are treating.’Internet Explorer Channel Network
