Paul Merson fears Arsenal’s season is in danger of fizzling out after back-to-to back defeats against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.

The Gunners surrendered top spot in the Premier League last weekend when their former manager, Unai Emery, masterminding a tactical masterclass to get the better of his old club.

Arteta had urged his team to respond to that setback and grasp the opportunity that had presented itself ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League showdown at the Allianz Arena.

Unfortunately, Arsenal again looked jaded, especially in the second period, and failed to offer a genuine threat to Bayern once they fell behind to Joshua Kimmich’s bullet header just past the hour mark.

Wolves lie in wait on Saturday night and a win would take Arsenal back to the summit with Manchester City in FA Cup action against Chelsea.

Merson believes the fixture at Molineux represents a major banana skin but is hopeful Arsenal will react positively and are capable of pulling off a morale boosting 2-1 win.

He told Sportskeeda: ‘How quickly does football change? All of a sudden, Arsenal are up against it and their season has unraveled in the past week.

‘I always thought this was going to be a hard gamebut it’s so much more difficult now after their results against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich

‘The Bavarians were by far the better team in the second half and have no qualms in admitting that Arsenal got dominated.

‘Their season could just fizzle out in the coming weeks, but they won’t wan to let that happen.

‘They have to win all their remaining games in the Premier League and see where it takes them.

‘This will be a hard game for the Gunners away form home, but they will look to respond after what has been a disastrous week.

‘They’ve thrown away the league and if we’re being really honest, they never really looked like beating one of the weakest Bayern Munich sides in ages.

‘Prediction 2-1.’
