Censor Board demands removal of ‘Bharatha’ from the upcoming Malayalam movie

The Central Board of Film Certification has mandated changes to the title of the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Oru Bharatha Sarkar Ulppanam.’ According to the directive, certification for the film will only be granted if the filmmakers omit the word ‘Bharatha’ from the title.

The film, helmed by director Ranjith T V, is scheduled for release in theaters on March 8. In response to the Censor Board’s order, as per On Manorama’s updates, the filmmakers, in order to avoid any delay in the movie’s release, have chosen to comply with the demand and modify the title. Initially planned for a March 1 release, the film’s launch was postponed to March 8 due to a strike organized by the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala.

Despite the setback, the filmmakers have opted not to contest the decision by the Censor Board through the National Review Committee, citing time constraints. This directive comes at a time when discussions are ongoing regarding the potential renaming of ‘India’ to ‘Bharath.’ The alteration of the film’s title under the Censor Board’s instruction adds an unexpected twist.

Starring Gouri Kishan, Vineeth Vasudevan, Subeesh Sudhi, and others, the movie revolves around a man whose life undergoes significant changes as he embarks on a government project.
