newcastle star bruno guimaraes fires transfer promise as liverpool learn stance on move

Liverpool have been coyly linked with a potential interest in Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes insists he is happy at Newcastle United and hopes he can stay at St James’ Park “for a long time” despite exit links to Liverpool and other Premier League clubs.

The midfielder has acknowledged there is a lot of transfer speculation surrounding him amid Newcastle’s precarious Financial Fair Play position. Eddie Howe admitted he could not rule out an exit for any of his star players last month, albeit was hopeful he could keep hold of them.

Following a spend of more than £500m since the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s 2021 takeover, the Magpies are being diligent about expenditure having seen Everton be deducted ten points in November for breaching Premier League Profit & Sustainability Rules.

Guimaraes is one player who has been linked with an exit for some time given his impressive form for Newcastle. The likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid have been touted as potential interested parties, as have Liverpool.

The player himself has now addressed the rumours surrounding his future during what is a difficult season for Newcastle. “Sometimes people speak a lot about me. I just speak a lot about football,” he told Sky Sports after grabbing a brace in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

“I’m very happy here and I like how the fans think of me here. Let the people speak. We have to get Europe [football] again, try for Champions League. I know it’s difficult but definitely [we are aiming] for Europa League.

“I enjoy my time here. The fans have been unbelievable for me and my family. I hope this can keep going for a long time.”

Jurgen Klopp’s scheduled exit has cast doubt over who Liverpool may look to sign in the summer. The club has always been cautious of spending beyond their means and with more than four years still left on his contract, Guimaraes may come at an unsuitably high price.
