Ladies Day has kicked off at Chester Races – and glamorous attendees have put their best fashion foot forward to start the day.

Guests donned their best ensembles on Thursday, sporting traditionally elegant dresses as well as quintessential theatrical headpieces.

And it was the perfect sunny day to show off a number of different styles, with many opting for mini-dresses or summery shoulder-bearing outfits.

Racegoers got started on the bubbly at lunchtime, popping open champagne and prosecco and clinking their glasses ready for a full day of nail-biting racing.

This is the day that will set the standard for racing attire for the rest of the season and will be a show stopping display of the very latest and greatest fashion by the Chester style set.

According to the website, the second day of the Boodles May Festival 2024 sees ‘racing in full swing as well as the arrival of Chester’s most glamorous ladies’.

A host of guests donned all their finery as they poured through the gates for Ladies’ Day, which organisers described as an ‘opportunity for racegoers to don their finest outfits and accessories, and enjoy a day of true luxury, fun and thrills’.

Bright colours seemed to be the look of the day as revellers opted for deep greens, vibrant pinks and blue hues when making their way through the racecourse.

One woman tried her best to stand out from the crowd by donning a flamboyant lime green satin co-ord, which she paired with brown wedges and a matching tan croc-print bag.

Among the sea of spectators there was a bride-to-be in the audience who donned a sash that said ‘Wifey’ on it, a pair of white heart-framed sunglasses and a veil.

With Chester operating a far less strict dress code than other racing events, such as Royal Ascot, revellers took full advantage of the relaxed sartorial guidelines as they gathered for the race meeting.

But each stand at Chester Racecourse adheres to a specific dress code policy and those who don’t uphold it may be refused access to the event.

If you’re in the Chester Members and Private Hospitality area, there is a ‘strictly smart’ style guide, with ladies encouraged to don longer length skirts and dresses, chic trousersuits and statement hats.

The County Concourse, Winning Post, Edinburgh Gin Garden and County Long Room enclosures are more of a ‘dress to impress’ mentality, recommending smart dresses, suits, clutch bags, fascinators and mix-and-match colour schemes.

The Parade or 1539 enclosures urges racegoers to dress for a smart occasion and tells them to opt for smart trousers, dresses and skirts but states that ‘revealing clothing’ is not permitted in the area.

The Tattersalls enclosure is more of a smart casual stand said you can either wear a polo shirt or collared shirt, smart jeans (not ripped), trousers, chinos, or a smart dress.

The most casual stand is the The Roodee, where relaxed summer dresses, shorts and T-shirts and sunglasses are welcomed.
