Aussie cult hero Min Woo Lee attracts hundreds of fans in red hats to Phoenix Open: 'Let him cook'

Aussie cult hero is attracting legions of new fans Fans turned out in red chef hats to support Min Woo Lee 'Let him cook' is Lee's famous catch phrase

Hundreds of golf fans in red-coloured chef hats flocked to the PGA Tour’s Phoenix Open to support Aussie rising star Min Woo Lee.

The reigning Australian PGA champion’s profile continues to grow after making his name in the States at last year’s Player Championship.

Lee’s signature catch phrase ‘let him cook’ has well and truly caught on with fans, with hundreds turning out in force to cheer him on through the opening days in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Many donned red chef hats with his slogan emblazed on them, following him around wherever he went.

Lee recently signed with athletic apparel company Lululemon, who provided the hats as part of a marketing stunt.

The 25-year-old had his fans cheering when he chipped in for an eagle at the third hole. He followed up with a birdie, with the rowdy crowd chanting, ‘Let him cook!’

Out in front, Sahith Theegala used five birdies on the back nine to shoot a seven-under 64 and take a one-shot lead into the third round.

Nick Taylor and Andrew Novak are tied in second place after the second round was completed on Saturday.

Elsewhere, a woman fell from one of the grandstands at the 16th hole during Friday’s second round.

Tournament organizers did not say where the incident occurred, nor did they reveal how far the fall was or where the woman landed.

‘Today at the WM Phoenix Open, a fan sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a fall at the 16th hole,’ a statement from the PGA Tour said.

‘Scottsdale fire and bike team paramedics reacted quickly at the scene to give the injured fan immediate medical attention then provided safe transport to a local medical center for further evaluation.

‘The WM Phoenix Open works closely with law enforcement, fire and medical organizations and the PGA Tour to strategically place emergency units throughout tournament grounds to promptly address health and safety situations.

‘We will provide additional details if or when appropriate out of respect for medical privacy.’

It is not known what was injured in the fall, nor is it known what condition the woman was in during the time of the accident.

The Phoenix Open has garnered a reputation for being one of the more rowdy, fan-oriented, and boozy events on the PGA Tour – with the 16th hole serving as its centerpiece.

That included one fan who was seen being carried over the shoulders of another man out the front gate of the tournament.

Elsewhere on the grounds, fans were seen sliding down a mud-covered hill after some stormy weather had passed through this week.

Police eventually came by and shut the sliding down – causing the patrons to boo the officers.
