Lifeboat station given mystery £1,100 cash donation

A lifeboat station has received another mystery donation in an envelope packed with £1,100 in cash.

It is the second time the RNLI Portishead station has received a mystery cash donation this year.

An envelope filled with £20 notes was posted through the charity’s letterbox in Somerset on Friday morning.

Lifeboat operations manager Dave Slack said the money was not only a “really nice surprise” but meant a lot to the charity and the team.

Mr Slack said the donation was “really important” to the charity

While the bank notes were the old-style paper notes the bank agreed to accept them as currency.

“The money is really important to us,” he said.

“We feel like we do a good service for the community and to be acknowledged in that way, it was really quite special.”

He said when everyone arrived at the station he was “quite happy” to tell them about what he had just found.

“We had a clap and a cheer about it.

“Our treasurer Jeff took the money to a local bank and they were happy to take the money off of him which was a relief,” he added.

The team received another cash donation of £1,260 from an anonymous donor back in February.

The station also received a mystery donation of £500,000 towards the project when it was built in 2015.
