india vs england: axar patel finishes second day’s play with 4 6 4- watch
Indian allrounder Axar Patel finished the second day of the first Test against England with 4, 6 and a 4, taking the attack to debutant Tom Hartley. He was batting on 21 off 59 deliveries at the end of the penultimate over of the day. Ravindra Jadeja played out the first two balls of the last over and then took a single to hand Axar the strike.
Hartley bowled a tossed up delivery to the Indian allrounder on the fourth ball of the over, and Axar smacked it right past Jadeja for a boundary which also brought up their fifty-run partnership.
Hartley again bowled a floated delivery on the next ball and this time Axar went down on one leg, in his friend Rishabh Pant’s style, and smacked it over deep midwicket for a six.

Hartley failed to learn his lesson from the twin hits and again bowled a delivery of the same length and Axar hit it hard over midwicket for a boundary to end the day’s play. Watch the video here:
Jadeja’s two-layered half-century and KL Rahul’s mastery were at the heart of India’s 421/7, a total which placed them several miles ahead of England after the second day’s play of the first Test in Hyderabad.
Jadeja (81 batting) and Axar (35 batting), who added 63 runs for the unbroken eighth-wicket partnership, are at the crease at stumps. India’s lead has now swelled to 175 runs, and England will find it hard to wipe that out once their turn to bat comes on the third day.

But India’s ascendancy to the top on a tacky track was more tectonic and Jadeja’s risk managing abilities played a huge role in it. In one sense, the situation was ideal for the left-hander, who loves a scrap in the middle.
India will look to take the lead past 200 when they take the field on Day 3.
