Private jet flight attendant lifts the lid on how the 'other half' REALLY live as she opens up about her life in the skies catering to the ultra-wealthy

Preparing fruit bowls, icing champagne and ridding windows of smear marks: These are just some of the jobs involved with being a private jet flight attendant.

Amerika Young, who is based in Miami and works as a private jet flight attendant coach, reveals in her latest YouTube what an average day looks like when you work in the luxury world of aviation.

In the video, she gives viewers a step-by-step guide around the work involved, with the first job on boarding being to check the toilet.

She explains that this is to check that the ‘water is cycling through’ and alert the pilot of any issues, but also to make sure there is no ‘stink’ lurking.

‘If it smells then you want to have them change out the fluid in the lavatory right away. Don’t wait until the end,’ Amerika adds.

After tending to the washroom, the aviation pro says it’s important to check all of the safety gear.

She tells viewers: ‘I want you to become incredibly familiar with everything on [the jet].

‘If this is your very first time now, if it’s not your first time… even if it’s your millionth time on the airplane, I want you to check all of your safety gear.

‘Don’t assume just because you’ve worked on this airplane that you know where everything is.

‘Be sure to check everything… are the expiration dates still good… does everything have power… does everything have enough oxygen?

‘Take everything out and inspect it with your flashlight.’

Some of the pieces of equipment Amerika recommends checking include the life rafts and the AED, or automated external defibrillator.

Next up, the YouTube creator moves to the galley area where she gets all of the catering gear prepared.

This appears to be one of the most arduous tasks, with the jobs involving icing the drinks, filling the ice drawers, and putting the food in the chiller or cooler.

Amerika says if her jet doesn’t have a cooler, she will use the sink as an ice bath to keep drinks cool.

When it comes to making coffee, she says luckily her aircraft has an espresso maker.

If there is no machine, she recommends preparing one pot of regular coffee and one with decaf before take off.

In terms of drinking vessels, while ceramic mugs look fancier, Amerika says paper cups with lids fare better in turbulence.

Next Amerika reveals how you have to be careful removing trash bags from the bins, as some private jet bins have special ‘fire prongs’ that can tear the lining.

She explains that the ‘prongs’ set off a warning if a fire in the trash can is detected.

Moving on to another pre-flight job, Amerika shows how she goes about preparing a fruit bowl.

To prevent the bowl from sliding around in the air, she places a non-slip mat underneath it.

Then, detailing her fruit arrangement, she explains: ‘So, I like to start with some bananas, maybe three to four bananas.

‘Always make sure that you’re taking any of the little sticky [labels] off.

‘I’ll start with bananas in here… I’ll stack my apples in next. I have some cutie oranges I’ll stack those in as well and then I’ve already pre-washed my grapes.’

Then, Amerika says she likes to leave napkins next to the fruit bowl ‘so that when people are eating the oranges, eating the apples they have something directly to put their peels or their rinds in.’

Another important perk of private jet travel, Amerika says, is a well-stocked ‘snack basket.’

Some of the items in her haul of goodies include beef jerky, dried fruit, and chocolate bars.

Lastly, she says ‘one little touch’ that she likes to do at every seat is ‘put a water bottle right away before the guests get there.’

She continues: ‘Then I include a couple mints and Starburst right in the cup holder next to them.

‘I find that it’s just a sweet little treat and a lot of people really do eat these, so it’s just a little touch.’

Once the passengers board the plane, Amerika says it is important to ask everyone for their drink orders and serve as many as possible before takeoff.

The globetrotter notes: ‘Always remember you can ask your pilots… how long am I going to have in order to serve people before we take off.

‘Now I would not serve any type of meals but if there’s any kind of warm nuts [or] little tiny light bites that would be okay.’

Amerika only serves plated food once the plane has reached altitude, just as a commercial flight attendant would.

Once in the air, some luxury touches include a hot or cold towel service and a run through of the menu.

Before passengers board, Amerika ensures she is familiar with how all of the seats work, so she is able to help passengers readjust their chairs and get comfortable.

Once the plane has landed and the passengers have disembarked, Amerika explains how she does a full pack down, collects the laundry and ensures all of the surfaces are clean using a ‘mix of alcohol and water and a microfiber cloth.’

She instructs viewers: ‘I want you to wipe down all the windows as well. [There is] nothing tackier than having a bunch of fingerprints.

‘You do not want to leave any mess whether that is for yourself or for another flight attendant.’

To date, Amerika’s private jet flight attendant video tutorial has been watched more than 140,000 times with many viewers thanking her for sharing her insights.
