‘[The deputies’] quick action saved the day, turning potential tragedy into a hopeful reunion,’ said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
‘Their dedication shows what service and protection are all about here at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.’
Bodycam footage of the rescue shows the touching moment that the deputies finally found the child.
‘Oh, there she is,’ one of the deputies said. The deputies then beckoned her over, saying ‘come here sweetie’ and ‘come here sweetheart.’
The deputy leading the group reached out his arms as he navigated through the swampy water to scoop the little girl out.
‘Hi baby girl,’ the deputy said. ‘Let’s get you out of the water.’
After carrying the five-year-old through the woodlands and back to their vehicles, the deputies checked to make sure she had no injuries.
