Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (22).
Despite recently turning 30 years old, running back Derrick Henry is one of the more interesting NFL names heading into free agency this offseason. Henry has gone on the record saying he’s looking forward to exploring free agency for the first time, and he’s also said he wants to find a team in which he can compete for a championship.
With that in mind, there are a few teams of interest worth exploring in the “next team” betting market available to us.
The teams favored to land Derrick Henry in 2024
Odds are courtesy of DraftKings.
- Baltimore (+175)
- Dallas (+550)
- Philadelphia (+650)
- Houston (+750)
- Miami (+1000)
- LA Chargers (+1000)
- Tennessee (+1000)
Five of the seven teams with odds of 10-1 or shorter to be Henry’s next team were in the playoffs this past year. The two others are of course Henry’s only team, the Titans, and the Chargers, who signed Jim Harbaugh to be their next head coach.
All reports out of Tennessee seem to suggest this will be it for their run with Henry, as he seems set to join a new team for the first time.
We don’t love looking at Houston or Philadelphia here. The Texans seem like a team focused more on building up the trenches and defense to surround C.J. Stroud with as much dynamic and young talent as they can while he’s on his rookie contract. As for the Eagles, they simply do not value the running back position very much and are very unlikely to bring Henry in as their lead back at his age.
Miami is a bit intriguing, but the Dolphins’ issues from last season seem to be far more on the offensive line and defense. They were able to get elite running back play from Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane and likely don’t need to shell out $10 million or more on Henry.
That leaves two teams that do make sense in Baltimore and Dallas.
The Ravens are the favorites to land Henry, and after coming close to the Super Bowl but failing to get the run game going in the AFC Championship Game, it’s not hard to see why they’d consider adding Henry to the offense to get over the hump.
The Cowboys got disappointing play out of Tony Pollard this year and just seem like a team bound to make some type of panic, splashy move to try and finally get something going in the playoffs after another quick exit this season.
Henry seems like just the player that Jerry Jones would target after seeing how effective Zeke Elliott was for Dallas all these years. Henry may also like the appeal of playing in the NFC if he’s hoping for a Super Bowl shot; the conference is far more wide open than the AFC is.
Our favorite bet: Dallas Cowboys to be Derrick Henry’s next team (+550)
