Sydney Sweeney Plays a Nun Witnessing a Hellish 'Miracle' in Creepy Trailer for “Immaculate”

‘Immaculate’ is in theaters March 22

Sydney Sweeney navigates a spooky Italian convent in her new horror movie.

The Anyone But You actress, 26, stars in Immaculate as a nun witnessing an ominous “miracle,” as it’s referred to in the trailer, which debuted Thursday.

Her character Cecilia is “an American nun of devout faith, embarking on a new journey in a remote convent in the picturesque Italian countryside,” according to a synopsis.

“Cecilia’s warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.”

Sweeney also produced the film, which is directed by Michael Mohan, who made 2021’s The Voyeurs with the actress.

Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco, who was in season 2 of The White Lotus (Sweeney starred in season 1). The cast also includes Álvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, Dora Romano and Giorgio Colangeli.

Sweeney teased the horror film to Deadline in February 2023, calling it “unhinged” but “beautiful.”

“It’s madness. I go unhinged, which always is fun. But it’s also beautiful,” she said at the time. “I really wanted to make sure that it was a beautifully shot horror film because we were filming in such a beautiful location. Rome is stunning, so I wanted to do the locations justice.”

The Euphoria actress also explained why she is becoming more involved in projects as a producer.

“I’ve always loved building my characters, and I also wanted to build worlds, so I love being involved in the creative process behind the camera before the actors show up,” said Sweeney, who also stars in the upcoming Madame Web. “I love learning about the mechanics behind films and TV shows.”
