Mel Gibson enjoys family dinner with girlfriend Rosalind Ross and son Lars, seven... after Robert Downey Jr. thanked him at 2024 SAG Awards

Mel Gibson enjoyed a night out at dinner with his girlfriend, screenwriter Rosalind Ross, 33, and their son Lars, seven.

The trio were spotted on Friday at a cozy cafe in Malibu, California, on a rainy night in Southern California.

The rare sighting comes after Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. included thanks for Gibson in his acceptance speech at the 2024 SAG Awards.

The Braveheart star, 68, wore gray jeans with a blue plaid shirt that showed a black T-shirt peeking from the unbuttoned neckline.

He also wore a dark sports coat, while the youngest of his nine children — the oldest of whom is nearly 44 — wore a blue patterned long-sleeve T-shirt with black shorts and black shoes while carrying a much-loved stuffed rabbit.

Rosalind, meanwhile, also wore a plaid shirt, but in red, black and white, with skinny black jeans, a black T-shirt underneath and her brown hair in a messy, casual bun.

The couple have been dating since 2014, when Rosalind was just 23 and Gibson was 58.

The couple have a 34-year age difference, and Rosalind is even younger than six of Gibson’s nine children.

The lovebirds reportedly met when she wrote a screenplay for his production company.

Before she got into screenwriting, Rosalind was an accomplished equestrienne who won the gold medal in 2010 at the World Equestrian Games.

Prior to his romance with Rosalind, Mel was in a relationship with Russian piano player Oksana Grigorieva from 2009 to 2010. The former couple welcomed the actor’s youngest daughter, Lucia Gibson, in 2009.

Mel was also married to Robyn Moore Gibson for nearly 30 years. They started dating in the early 1970s and tied the knot in 1980, the same year that their first child, their daughter Hannah, was born.

Over the decade from 1980 to 1990 Mel and Robyn also welcomed their sons Edward, Christian, William, Louis and Milo.

Their youngest son, Thomas Gibson, was born in 1999.

Mel and Robyn split in 2009, and their divorce was finalized in 2011.

Last week, actor Robert Downey Jr. thanked Mel in his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer at the SAG Awards.

Downey had a good reason for thanking Gibson — he resurrected his career after his history of drug abuse and alcoholism left him uninsurable on film sets, meaning he could not get cast in a film or television show.

Gibson helped to cast Downey in his 2003 film The Singing Detective, which put his acting career back on path.

‘I couldn’t get hired, so he cast me in the lead of a movie that was actually developed for him,’ Downey said in 2011. ‘And he kept a roof over my head… and he kept food on the table.’
