delhi court extends deadline for uapa charge sheet against newsclick founder, hr head
The Delhi Patiala House Court on Friday granted a 20-day extension for the filing of a charge sheet in the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) case against Prabir Purkayastha, the founder of NewsClick, and the HR head, Amit Chakraborty.
The court’s decision comes as an additional extension beyond the initial 60 days granted to the Delhi Police Special Cell for filing the charge sheet, which was set to expire on February 29. Seeking more time, the Delhi Police had requested a 30-day extension from February 29. However, the court has sanctioned an additional twenty days for the filing of the charge sheet.
This legal development marks an ongoing chapter in the case, with the court also extending the Judicial Custody of Amit Chakraborty and Prabir Purkayastha until March 15. The extension underscores the continued scrutiny and proceedings surrounding the UAPA case, shedding light on the complexities and legal intricacies involved. As the case unfolds, it remains a subject of interest and attention within the legal and media spheres.
