anticipatory bail denied, tmc leader shahjahan sheikh to face ed probe
An Enforcement Directorate (ED) special court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh, who is at the centre of the Sandeshkhali sexual assault furore. The TMC leader had filed the anticipatory bail petition on February 5 before the ED special court, and the court conducted a thorough hearing involving arguments from both parties before issuing its final order.
The decision marks a significant turn in the legal proceedings surrounding Shahjahan Sheikh. The rejection of anticipatory bail implies that he may now be subject to potential arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Numerous women in Sandeshkhali have accused Shahjahan Sheikh and his accomplices of systemic sexual exploitation and land grabbing. The accusations surfaced following Shahjahan’s disappearance, and the Enforcement Directorate’s team was attacked in January while en route to his residence.
Shahjahan has been evading authorities since the incident. His associates, Shibaprasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, both TMC leaders, were arrested after police received complaints from women in the area.
