KKB by-election: Muhyiddin has done more for Umno than Pakatan, says Kiandee

HULU SELANGOR: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has done more for Umno compared to Pakatan Harapan, says Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (pic).

Reflecting on Muhyiddin’s tenure as Prime Minister, Kiandee compared the number of Umno cabinet ministers during Muhyiddin’s tenure compared to the current unity government.

The Perikatan leader said this was the “favour to repay”, taking aim at Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for saying that the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was the chance for Barisan and Umno to repay Pakatan’s favours.

Ahmad Zahid had previously said DAP, PKR and Amanah leadership gave their support to Barisan in previous by-elections, such as those for the Pelangai state seat and Kemaman parliamentary seat.

“When we talk about repaying the favour, how many Umno ministers are there now compared to Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s tenure as Prime Minister?

“There were more when Muhyiddin helmed the post. That’s the favour to be repaid, and not to Pakatan or DAP,” said Kiandee during a Perikatan ceramah here on Wednesday (May 8) night.

The Beluran MP said Muhyiddin also “made sure” that someone from Umno would helm the country” after he stepped down.

“I remember clearly how Muhyiddin called on Bersatu MPs to sign statutory declarations supporting Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the next Prime Minister.

“That was Perikatan’s favour. When they say Umno has to repay the favour to Pakatan, just compare the difference between the number of Umno cabinet members.

“Perikatan also made sure that the next Prime Minister would be from Umno,” he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will see a four-cornered fight between Pakatan, Perikatan, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and an Independent.

Polling day is on Saturday (May 11).
