Maserati has revealed the convertible version of its brand new GranTurismo, and unsurprisingly it is called the GranCabrio. You’d also – equally unsurprisingly – call it quite gorgeous, because it is.

Resplendent here in range-topping Trofeo trim, the new Maser GC gets the company’s Nettuno 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine – the same one slotted inside the MC20 supercar – producing a hefty 542bhp and hopefully an equally hefty noise.

That noise can be accessed fully in as little as 14 seconds. Because that’s how long it takes to unfurl the fabric soft top – available in five colours – at speeds of up to 31mph. Of course, with a 3.0-litre V6 powering the rear wheels, there’s plenty more speed: Maserati claims 0-62mph in 3.6s and a top speed of 196mph.

Instead we’re simply told the new Maserati GranCabrio is “100 per cent made in Italy”, follows the GT in “offering a new and captivating version of the grand tourer par excellence”, and is “ideal for travelling with company or alone with the wind in your hair”.

Said wind can be redirected via an optional wind stopper, only available if there’s nobody in the rear two seats. Though a neck warmer delivering three levels of heat intensity is fitted as standard.

Maserati hasn’t really divulged much more than that, but the GranTurismo coupe is available as a full EV, and that car gets 750bhp to play with (head this way for our review). So in time, there’ll be a GranCabrio Folgore in the mix as well. Expect prices for this Trofeo to kick off around £170k.
