Kill 'stubborn' patio weeds with 80p homemade weed killer that uses common ingredients

There’s nothing worse as a green-fingered gardener than having your handiwork wrecked by weeds.

If you’ve got a lovely patio, the last thing you want is weeds littering it, and you’ll feel the same about your garden as well. Weeds, while not harmful, can be seriously irritating, and get you furiously searching how to get rid of them. But many people may want to move away from chemical removers, instead opting for cheaper, and more environmentally friendly ways to get rid of the pesky plant.

According to the experts at The Plastic Centre, homemade solutions are the best to use, especially when it comes to paving slab weeds. “This DIY weed killer, which costs under 80p per litre to make, requires only a few household items, distilled vinegar, cooking salt and washing up liquid”, they promised.

For a small batch, simply mix 500ml of vinegar with 30ml of cooking salt and a tablespoon of washing up liquid. Pour the vinegar into the pressurised sprayer first, followed by the cooking salt and dishwashing liquid, reports The Express. Then, you should give the mixture a good shake before using it.

All the items can be purchased cheaply, with Tesco vinegar coming in at just 35p, Ocado table salt costing 40p, and Asda washing up liquid costing 55p.

They said that the best time to use the solution is “on a hot and dry day”, as this will be when it’s most effective. “Once applied, the weeds should begin to wilt within 24 hours and be completely dried out within 48 hours.

“This simple, quick-acting formula not only keeps your garden looking pristine but also sidesteps the environmental and financial costs associated with commercial weed killers.”

Make sure to never use this homemade mixture on weeds which are located close to plants or on the lawn, as it will also kill them, and can undo all your hard work.
