Former U.S. President Donald Trump and musician Kid Rock are seen in attendance during the UFC 287 event at Kaseya Center on April 08, 2023, in Miami, Florida.

Have you seen on social media that Kid Rock and Jason Aldean are canceling their New York tour dates? The story, which is going viral on X, insists the musicians are doing it to support Donald Trump after a New York judge ordered the former president to pay $355 million last week. But it’s completely fake.

“Kid Rock and Jason Aldean have responded to New York’s extreme attack on President Trump by REMOVING the state from their ‘You Can’t Cancel America Tour.’ This is a BIG DEAL and a sign of the silent majority rising again!” right-wing influencer Brigitte Gabriel wrote on X Tuesday.

The story originated at the Dunning-Kruger Times, a satirical website with the explicit goal of making conservatives look stupid. The name of the site is a reference to the Dunning-Kruger Effect, the concept that people with limited intelligence in a particular area can overestimate their own abilities in that same area.

The fake article has plenty of red flags, including a reference to a Kid Rock fan club with a suspicious president’s name and something about the West Plattsville Pig Roast, an event that doesn’t exist.

From the Dunning-Kruger Times:

The tour was set to play more than a dozen dates in New York, adding untold millions to local economies and giving patriotic Americans living in a liberal nightmare the chance to have a night to themselves.

“All of that’s gone now, thanks to New York,” said President of the Kid Rock Fan Club Joe Barron, “I had tickets for the West Plattsville Pig Roast. Floor seats. We were gonna get the free commemorative popcorn bucket signed by Kid himself for an extra $12.99. We’re pretty bummed.”

There’s no Kid Rock tour called the “You Can’t Cancel America Tour,” though a simple Google search will bring you to plenty of debunkers written by websites like Snopes in which the Dunning-Kruger Times has already used the name for other fake articles. Kid Rock’s current tour is called “Rock the Country” and doesn’t have any planned stops in New York.

Supporters of Trump have expressed outrage after a judge in New York ordered the former president to pay $355 million for overvaluing and undervaluing his properties in the state when it suited him for tax purposes and to secure loans. The total Trump owes is likely to exceed $450 million when interest is taken into account, according to ABC News.

Some truckers on social media have pledged to stop deliveries to New York in support of Trump, though there’s no evidence of any disruptions so far. In fact, one trucker who goes by Chicago Ray took down a viral post calling for a boycott of New York, explaining on Monday that he’s not a leader of any movement.

Other stories from the Dunning-Kruger Times have gone viral in conservative social media circles in recent months, including one about Keanu Reeves refusing to give Whoopi Goldberg an award. And it’s unlikely people will stop sharing fake articles from the website in the near future, as long as it validates a previously held belief. In this case, that belief is that Trump is somehow being treated unfairly by the U.S. justice system.
