Video footage shows the moment a kickboxer chased a thief down his street after he had stolen items from his car.

Kian Shakouri, 29, can be seen sprinting out of his home in Bedworth, Warwickshire, dressed only in boxer shorts after being alerted by his motion-detected security cameras of movement outside his home.

He managed to catch up to the thief who ‘cowered, whimpered and cried’ when he dropped the stolen items, which included tools Mr Shakouri uses for his job as a carpenter, and his neighbour’s keys.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and was captured on CCTV at the kickboxing trainer’s home.

The footage shows a man dressed in a hooded jumper, face mask, black trousers and trainers rummaging around in the boot of a car parked on a driveway.

The thief appears unbothered that a light at the front of the property has switched on, and carries on looking through the boxes of tools.

After a few seconds, the thief picks up a couple of toolboxes as the light on the front of the house switches off.

The crook puts one box back into the boot and shuts it, activating the light in the process, before walking off armed with two toolboxes.

He then tries the door handle of a car parked next to it but is disturbed when he hears a noise coming from the house.

Moments later, Mr Shakouri, dressed only in boxer shorts, is seen running out of the property and shouting at the thief who drops both boxes and runs away.

Mr Shakouri keeps up the chase, shouting ‘come here’ as he disappears off camera.

The recording picks up audio which appears to be the moment Mr Shakouri catches up with the thief.

Mr Shakouri said the incident happened at about 6am on Sunday and woke him when a motion detector alerted him to movement outside his house.

Thinking it was a cat or a postman, he ignored it until it alerted him again.

After the second alert, he checked the live video on his app, which showed a man at the back of his car.

He said he initially thought it was his father before realising it was a thief.

Without time to put on any clothes, he bolted out the front door and chased them down, eventually catching up with him about 20 metres down the road.

He told Metro: ‘He probably thought he’d hit the jackpot, he’d been stealing everything and anything.

‘There was a little pile of stuff outside the front of the house which he’d obviously stolen from other people.

‘It looked like Christmas presents with perfumes and boxes of Ferrero Rocher, it looked like small gifts for people.

‘But he didn’t get away with anything. As I chased him he just dropped everything and ran.’

After the incident, the kickboxer told The Sun: ‘As soon as I caught up with him he cowered, whimpered and cried.

‘Police told me that the keys I had taken off him were one of my neighbour’s house keys.

‘It was nice to be able to return them.’

Mr Shakouri, who runs Total Kickboxing Academy, posted the video onto his Facebook page, warning others to ‘be vigilant’ and calling himself ‘captain underpants’.

He captioned it: ‘This morning, this scum bag was caught stealing out of cars in Bedworth.

‘Be vigilant, keep your cars locked and desirable out of sight.

‘Ring cameras saved the day this time, along with captain underpants.’

Warwickshire Police confirmed the attempted theft was reported to them at 6.43am on Sunday.

Appealing for information, the force confirmed no arrests had been made.
