biden’s ‘new weapon’ to defeat trump in 2024 election: lgbtq+ voters
Despite a poor show in the recent surveys ahead of the 2024 US Presidential Polls, the Biden Campaign showed its enthusiasm in consolidating its LGBTQ+ voter base on Wednesday. To cater to the votes of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, as well as queer communities, President Joe Biden launched a new election campaign, in what had been described as a ‘secret weapon’.
The incumbent leader’s Campaign managers informed that the same voter base was crucial in its victory against the then US President Donald Trump. Nearly 11,000 LGBTQ+ volunteers were mobilized for the 2020 election, and their efforts were crucial in helping Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, the current US Vice President, win.
“LGBTQ+ voters are a force to be reckoned with. They were critical to our victory in 2020, and they will be critical to winning again this November. That’s why we’re thrilled to launch Out for Biden-Harris, which will harness the LGBTQ+ community’s organizing prowess to reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris this November,” Advocate quoted Biden’s Campaign manager Chavez Rodriguez’s statement.
A report by The Daily Mail added that Rodriguez saw LGBTQ+ voters as a push for the campaign in terms of a ‘secret weapon’ for the 2024 election. Most of the surveys show the US President lagging behind Trump as the best choice to be the country’s next leader.
The outlets further reported that Biden’s Campaign organisers see this as an opportunity to increase the vote share gained from a diverse range of social groups including the LGBTQ+. For that in the coming weeks, drag queens, elected officials who belong to the community, and LGBTQ+ faith leaders are going to have their significant presence to be made felt.
Harris also recently through a video message urged the LGBTQ+ voters to rail behind Biden. This announcement came in the aftermath of the ‘Out for Biden-Harris’ program. The latest campaign dropped with a warning for the LGTBQ+ voters that Trump would ‘gut LGBTQ+ rights’
Patting Biden’s back for advocating the rights of the community, Harris in her message spoke about the representation of the LGBTQ+ groups within the current administration. Gay Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, lesbian White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, transgender Assistant Secretary of Health Admiral Rachel Levine, and gay State Department Spokesman Ned Price, were some of the names taken by the US VP while urging the people from the other genders to solidify their support for the 81-year-old leader yet again.
