Entrepreneur Jamal Edwards died in 2022

Musicians, actors and community activists were among those to attend an event marking the second anniversary of entrepreneur Jamal Edwards’ death.

The event in Notting Hill, west London, was organised by the trust named after Mr Edwards and was also used to launch three of its “social impact initiatives”.

His mother, Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards, says she is aiming to create a “remarkable legacy” for her son.

Mr Edwards founded SBTV and helped launch the careers of Ed Sheeran, Dave and Skepta.

The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust (JESBT) aims to help underepresented young people “access fulfilling careers”.

Ms Edwards said: “‘Jamal was a pioneer, a disruptor and a force for good that opened doors and brought hope to so many.”

Ms Edwards told BBC Radio London it was a “celebration of his life,” adding: “I was very overwhelmed by the response and seeing all of the lovely people.

“It was an amazing, beautiful night.”

The initiatives launched at the event aim to address unemployment, homelessness and to see the creation of a community space where “young and old to learn and create together”.

“Jamal’s mantra was self-belief,” Ms Edwards said. “I think it’s important to just keep driving that message as much as you can – there are so many young people out there that don’t necessarily have that support.”
