Drivers have been warned by experts at Quotezone.co.uk that if they don’t report certain updates, they might get hit with a hefty fine. Drivers who do not update the DVLA about any changes, like new medical conditions or shifting homes, face harsh penalties such as fines up to £1,000 and six points on their licence, reports BirminghamLive.

Quotezone.co.uk’s CEO and founder, Greg Wilson, said: “Motorists should always keep the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency up to date with any changes. There are a few things that car owners must tell the DVLA, and anyone that doesn’t risks a huge fine, or even being taken to court.”

He added: “It is easy to think some of these details, like a change of address, are insignificant and therefore forget to notify them, but there could be serious and expensive consequences. If you are registered as the official keeper of a car, you have the responsibility for official communications with the police, the DVLA and your insurer.”

“If you need to check if you need to get in touch with the DVLA to notify them of anything, go to their website.” Drivers must tell the DVLA about changes like their eyesight, health conditions, name, or gender. They also need to say if they’re not using their car.

You have to let them know if you change your car or move house too. Keep your vehicle logbook and driving licence current, whether the changes are for a short time or for good. You can do this online. If you don’t update your address with the DVLA, you might have to pay up to £1,000.
