Simon Cowell comes to the rescue as he 'rushes backstage at Britain's Got Talent auditions after a young dancer suffers a horrifying accident'

Simon Cowell rushed backstage during the Britain’s Got Talent auditions to help a young dancer who suffered a horrifying fall on Sunday.

Auditions, which were being held at The Lowry Theatre in Salford, were brought to an abrupt halt after a member of a dance troupe suffered a nasty accident.

The TV mogul, 64, and fellow judge Bruno Tonioli hurried to the wings to check up on the performer as the safety curtain was lowered.

The dancer is said to have collapsed into the wings and a medic tended to him with Simon and Bruno also checking up on the injured contestant while fellow judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon entertained the crowd.

A source told The Sun: ‘It was a real shock when it happened as the lad, who was in his early twenties, was obviously in agony.

‘Unfortunately the rest of the troupe were so focused, and there were so many of them, that they had completed the routine before they quite realised how badly injured he was.

‘After the safety curtain came down Simon and fellow judge Bruno Tonioli went backstage to check on the lad. [judges] Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon helped entertain the audience while they anxiously waited to find out what had happened.’

A spokesperson for the show said: ‘The health and safety of our contestants is of the utmost importance.

‘A member of a dance group sustained an injury whilst auditioning and was seen by medics on set as a precaution.

‘The auditions were halted for an hour, but eventually restarted and the dance troupe were given the green light to proceed to the next round.’

During Friday’s auditions, Simon put on a kooky display on the carpet as he removed his coat but opted to keep his black gloves on.

The star arrived in his usual plain grey top and jeans as his assistant kept him dry under an umbrella.

Shedding his black padded coat for the red carpet, Simon looked in good spirits after Bruno was seen keeping the TV star warm earlier as the foursome waited at the tram stop.

Bruno wrapped his brown fur coat around Simon as the two attempted to share its warmth.

The dancer looked over the moon as he greeted fans on the carpet after he joined the judging panel for the first time last year.

Simon was previously forced to pull out of filming due to illness.

The music mogul was pictured arriving to film a previous round of auditions in Manchester on Tuesday, after a crippling headache left him too unwell to work.

Heading into the The Lowry, Simon flashed a thumbs up while sporting one of his signature all-black ensembles.

While he was previously seen sporting a pair of tinted ‘blue light filter’ glasses, which are believed to help prevent migraines, this time he’d swapped them for a pair of his signature aviators.
