BATU PAHAT – A thrill-seeker faced consequences for a dangerous stunt after a viral video depicted his ‘drifting’ maneuver colliding with a four-wheel drive (4WD) parked at Jalan Desa Botani 1, Taman Desa Botani here at 1.15pm yesterday, leading to police seizing his Toyota Supra car.

Batu Pahat’s acting district police chief, Supt. Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said that the 20-year-old local man was suspected of executing the ‘drift’ around 12.15am on Feb 20.

“Earlier, the Batu Pahat District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) detected a viral video on Facebook showing the incident believed to have occurred around 12.15am.

“Acting on the information and after further investigation and intelligence gathering, the suspect was successfully apprehended, and the car was impounded.

“A urine screening test yielded negative results for any type of drug,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Shahrulanuar noted that a remand order for the suspect would be sought at the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court today.

The case was being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to the offence of reckless and dangerous driving.

“The police advise the public, especially car or motorcycle enthusiasts who may want to test their vehicles’ capabilities and driving skills, to refrain from doing so on public roads as it poses a risk of danger to other road users.

“If such activities are desired, they should be conducted on appropriate specialised circuits.

“The police will take decisive action in accordance with existing laws to prevent such actions from being mere attention-seeking endeavors and inappropriate displays of power,” he stressed.

The 37-second viral video depicts a car executing a ‘drift’ turn before colliding with another vehicle parked in the business premises area.
