michael vaughan makes big claim on 20-year-old english star shoaib bashir; calls him ‘new ravichandran ashwin’
Former England captain Michael Vaughan made a big claim on a 20-year-old English star despite the Ben Stokes-led team’s seris defeat in India. With England putting on a spirited show on Indian soil, Vaughan compared the youngster to Ravichandran Ashwin.
England have had to field an inexperienced bowling unit in India after Moeen Ali’s retirement and Jach Leach’s injury that ruled him out of the series after the first Test match. The Stokes-led outfit’s spin attack in India consisted of 19-year-old Rehan Ahmed, who played two Test matches before the India series, and Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir, who made their Test debuts in this series. Star batter Joe Root has bowled more than 100 overs in the series.

The former England captain has lavished praise on Bashir and called him the new Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner was impressed with England in the Ranchi Test, as the visitors almost pulled off a historic win. Bashir was the star of the show, as he took a five-wicket haul in the first innings and three wickets in the second innings.
“It’s been a fantastic week for English cricket. One of the great weeks, celebrating another world-class superstar that we’ve unearthed, Shoaib Bashir. That’s what we’re celebrating. Second Test match, eight wickets, he’s the new Ravi Ashwin, and we’ve unearthed him. So, we’re celebrating a new superstar in English cricket,” Vaughan said on the Club Prairie Fire’s YouTube channel.
Vaughan also went on to make a big claim and state that England will stun the odds and win the Dharmshala Test to reduce India’s series win deficit to 3:2.

“I think it’s going to be a fresh one in Dharamsala, so I expect England to win. They’ve been the better team in the series, as they were in the Ashes. If you go session by session, England have looked a better team. I’m saying looked a better team, but we don’t play series now to win them. I think people have got to understand that the game of cricket has changed in the UK. We don’t play to win them, we play to just bring entertainment, bring joy, and unearth new talent,” said Vaughan.
