After back-to-back films where she put her multi-tasking skills to the test as writer, director, producer and star, Katie Holmes appears to be in between projects at the moment.
Taking advantage of some downtime on her hands, the Toledo, Ohio, native appeared to be on an errand run, while checking out the many storefront setups along the artsy Soho neighborhood in Downtown Manhattan.
The former Dawson’s Creek star, 44, made her way along the bustling streets in blue jeans and a half tucked white dress shirt and black Adidas sneakers.
While the temperature had risen to the upper 60s Fahrenheit for a high, it began dipping down to the low 50s, which could explain why Holmes had her arms firmly wrapped around her mid-section to warm up.
Rounding out her casual ensemble, the actress-turned-director and writer wore stylish black sunglasses while carrying a matching handbag over her right shoulder during her stroll.

Holmes just returned from her visit to France where she attended the Cannes Film Festival to promote the mentoring of young female filmmakers in Saudi Arabia.
‘It’s important to hear perspectives from all over the world, but especially from Saudi Arabia,’ she told WWD. ‘These women, they’re finally getting their freedoms, and this is one of them.’
The main goal of the program is to get filmmakers from the region into international festivals to give them more visibility on the world stage, which Holmes thinks is also vital for people in the West to see and hear.
During the conversation, she shared about her transition to writing and directing, and how it was more of an instinctive move than a grand plan to redefine herself.
‘I just felt like it was something that was another step of creativity,’ she says. ‘I’ve never really been that focused on the exterior.’
That recent transition over the last few years has made her quadruple threat of sorts, which began with Alone Together (2022), a romantic drama that she wrote, directed, produced and starred in.
Inspired to tell a tale with the COVID-19 pandemic as the backdrop, the Batman Begins actress began writing early on in the pandemic about two strangers who are sharing an Airbnb in New York during the lockdown.
Produced by her new production company, Lafayette Picture, she would ultimately helm the project, which eventually made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in July 2022.
Along with Holmes, the cast also includes Jim Sturgess, Derek Luke, Melissa Leo, Zosia Mamet and Becky Ann Baker.

Making a difference: In between film projects, Holmes recently attended the Cannes Film Festival, where she promoted the mentoring of young female filmmakers in Saudi Arabia

Motivation: ‘It’s important to hear perspectives from all over the world, but especially from Saudi Arabia,’ Holmes told WWD while at the Cannes Film Festival in May. ‘These women, they’re finally getting their freedoms, and this is one of them’

Multi-tasking: Holmes has been a quadruple threat as writer, director, producer and star with her last two films, including Rare Objects (2023) and Alone Together (2022)
Holmes followed up as co-writing, director, producer and star of the drama film Rare Objects (2023)
Sharing the writing credit with Phaedon A. Papadopoulos and Kathleen TessaroIt, the story centers on a young woman who seeks to rebuild her life when she takes work at an antique store. She regains her confidence from the kind souls who own the shop, until those from her traumatic past begin to resurface, according to IMDb.
The cast includes Perva Bedi, Candy Buckley, Alan Cumming, Aerial East, David Alexander Flinn, Olivia Gilliatt and Holmes, among many others,
Rare Objects would make its premiere in April, which likely means Holmes will be looking out for her new film production.
