TMC is Tu, Mai, Corruption hi Corruption: PM Modi targets Mamata Banerjee
NEW DELHI: In a direct attack at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the party of fostering an environment where “crime and corruption have thrived” in West Bengal.
Speaking at a rally in Krishnagar on Saturday, PM Modi asserted that the TMC has become synonymous with “atrocities” and “betrayal.”
“The way TMC is working here, they have disappointed the people of West Bengal. People have continuously voted for TMC but this party has become another name for atrocities and betrayal,” remarked the prime minister during the rally.
He alleged, “For TMC, the priority is not the development of Bengal, but corruption, nepotism and betrayal. TMC wants to keep the people of Bengal poor so that its politics and game continues.”
PM Modi earlier inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth Rs 15,000 crore in Krishnanagar city, situated in West Bengal’s Nadia District.
The address by PM follows a meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Friday. Tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TMC have been escalating, particularly in the Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas district.
The arrest of Shahjahan Sheikh, a prominent TMC figure facing accusations of “sexual assault and land grabbing” in Sandeshkhali, has added fuel to the ongoing political strife in the region.
