PETALING JAYA: Photographs of the suspect involved in the KLIA Terminal 1 shooting earlier today have been distributed to all entry points at the Thai border as well as the authorities in Thailand.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the photographs were issued as soon as the suspect was identified as Hafizul Harawi, 38, Bernama reported.

He said police have tightened controls at “illegal routes” along the northern borders to ensure the suspect does not flee Malaysia.

Razarudin believes the suspect is still in the country and said efforts to hunt him down are being intensified.

“I have faith in the efficiency of my personnel. The suspect will be arrested soon,” he said.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect used a nine-millimetre semi-automatic pistol in the shooting.

“Police retrieved three bullet casings at the scene of the incident, of which one did not explode. We believe the suspect obtained the pistol from a neighbouring country,” he said.

Two gunshots were fired in the KLIA arrival hall at about 1.30am as a man attempted to shoot his wife but missed. One of the bullets hit a bodyguard, who suffered severe injuries.

Bukit Aman said the suspect has a criminal record for two cases involving criminal intimidation, and one for theft and impersonating a civil servant.

The suspect and his wife are believed to be business partners in a travel agency. The couple was reportedly in the process of getting a divorce, with the wife believed to be in the early stages of pregnancy.
