Couple perform 'scientific' test to check if all-inclusive holiday resort is watering down their drinks

Brits are known for their affinity for package holidays but sometimes it’s worth questioning why they keep prices so low.

One British couple dared to question how strong their drinks were while holidaying  in Turkey.

Chelsea Dickensen, who runs the TikTok account @cheapholidayexpert showed her 134,000 followers how to use an ‘alcohol measurer’ in the clip to test her fans’ theory that ‘cheap all-inclusive hotels water down booze’.

The couple tested gin and vodka and Chelsea joked that it wasn’t an entirely ‘scientific’ method when the alcohol percentage came out lower than expected.

🥃💦 Are hotels watering down your drinks?!! SURELY NOT?! So many of you said this to me in the run up to our cheap all inclusive holiday and so James and I decided to INVESTIGATE 🕵🏻 We await your thoughts on our highly scientific experiment 😂 #cheapholidays #cheapholiday #budgettravel #allinclusive #allinclusiveresorts

Chelsea said: ‘This is an alcohol measurer because lots of you said that they water down booze at cheap all-inclusive hotels. We don’t believe it do we, James?

‘We did think we should conduct a scientific experiment just to prove to you that they are legitimate.’

Using a pipette, James inserted drops of gin into the refractometer – a device which can be used to measure alcohol content in liquid.

They expected it to detect a spirit volume of 37.5 per cent in the drink, but  the results showed only 33 per cent.

However, they weren’t startled by it and explained some things that could affect the booze’s potency, with James explaining: ‘Temperature can vary the accuracy of this.’

They then decided to test their experiment with vodka, which should also have a volume of 37.5 per cent, but again were confronted with 33 per cent.

Chelsea asked James: ‘What does that mean?’ to which he concluded: ‘That means I don’t think that they water them down’.

She confirmed his hypothesis: ‘We have literally seen them break the seal on brand new bottles so I’m going to go ahead and say that this place is not watering down’ and James added: ‘These are honest people’.

TikTok users were either huge fans of Chelsea and James' hack or not, with some of them claiming the booze served was still so cheap it wasn't worth staff skimping on  it

TikTok users were divided over Chelsea’s video, which has since amassed an impressive 1 million views – with some super keen to grab their own refractometer and others deeming it futile.

One user joked: ‘Need someone to do this at a Spoons!’ while another excitedly chimed in: ‘A new item I need to pack in my suitcase!’

But another theorised: ‘So what? It’s all inclusive just get another’ and someone else asserted: ‘They get it cheap enough, it’s not worth watering it down’.

And a different user felt the couple were using the machine wrong.

‘It’s a refractometer and needs to be calibrated every time. Temperature influences the measurement and it’s used to measure the sugar content of fruit.’
