target will 'greatly reduce' items on shelves for sale in its stores next year

Only select DVDs will be sold in stores

Target is following the lead of other US superstores and reducing the physical media on sale in its stores.

Sales of physical media, such as CDs, DVDs, and Blu Ray, is in decline. While Target will reduce the items sold in its stores, it will continue to sell them online.

A spokesperson for Target (via IGN), said: “Based on our guests’ shopping patterns and broader industry trends, we’re transitioning the limited assortment of DVDs we carry in our stores to Target.com, where guests will continue to find thousands of titles.

Target joins several other stores that are steering away from stocking physical media

“Moving forward, we’ll offer select DVDs in stores when they are newly released or during key times throughout the year when they are more popular, like for gift giving during the holidays.”

Customers will still be able to buy physical copies of the latest music and movies on Target’s website. This move comes after Best Buy shocked customers last year when they cleared their shelves of all physical media.
