Kansas City Chiefs release former second-round pick at WR
The Kansas City Chiefs announced they were cutting two wide receivers and a defensive lineman ahead of their OTA practices this month. One of the wide receivers they cut was a recently acquired former second-round pick.
The Chiefs went into the draft knowing they needed to add insurance at wide receiver for the upcoming season. Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is dealing with legal issues. The team chose to decline Kardarius Toney’s fifth-year option. The Chiefs traded up to grab Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick to put alongside Marquise Brown for the upcoming season.
The Chiefs released Anthony Miller
With additions to their wide receivers room, the team cut receivers Anthony Miller and Shi Smith and defensive end Jordan Smith, per Aaron Wilson with KPRC.
The Chicago Bears drafted Miller in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s also played in games for the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers. In his career, he has 140 receptions, 1,589 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Miller signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs in January. But he didn’t even make it to OTA practices before they released him from the roster.
The Carolina Panthers drafted Shi Smith in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In January, he signed a reserve/futures contract with the Chiefs.
The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Jordan Smith in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a reserve future contract with the Chiefs in January.
