Cole Palmer has admitted that he will find it ‘strange’ and ‘weird’ when Chelsea travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City on Saturday.

Palmer swapped City for Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £42.5m this summer, a move which initially raised eyebrows given the 21-year-old’s lack of experience.

But the versatile attacker has been Mauricio Pochettino’s best player this term – producing 12 goals and nine assists across his opening 28 matches for the Blues.

Palmer has previously revealed that it was never his intention to leave City in the summer and now says it will be a ‘strange’ experience to go back to his old club.

‘It will be strange, a weird feeling, but I’m looking forward to it and the team’s looking forward to it,’ Palmer told Chelsea’s website about Saturday’s clash.

‘I’m very excited to be honest, even though it will be strange. Obviously I played against them at Stamford Bridge.

‘But I think going back to the Etihad will be even stranger. I’m really looking forward to it.’

Speaking in January, Palmer spoke openly about his move from City to Chelsea and said: ‘My thing was to never leave City.

‘That was not my intention. I wanted to go on loan for a year, come back and be ready for the first team.

‘But they said I couldn’t go on loan, either stay or you get sold. So then, Chelsea rang me. I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I’m really happy to be here. I’m very glad I made the decision to come here.’
