'Kami jaga soal kebajikan haiwan yang ditangkap'

Kuala Lumpur: Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) menerusi Unit Kawalan Vektor dan Pest tidak mengambil remeh soal kebajikan haiwan liar yang ditangkap hasil maklumat daripada orang awam.

Ketua Unit Kawalan Vektor dan Pest, Dr Muhammad Firdaus Zainal Abidin berkata, semua haiwan itu dijaga, diberi makan dan ditempatkan di tempat bersesuaian sepanjang berada dalam kurungan.

Dr Muhammad Firdaus berkata, DBKL bukan hanya menangkap tetapi turut mengadakan program adopsi bagi membolehkan orang ramai mengambil bagi dijadikan haiwan peliharaan.

Katanya, jumlah tangkapan kumulatif sehingga semalam ialah 70 anjing dewasa, enam anak anjing dan 23 kucing.

“Setiap hari, kami menerima banyak aduan dengan purata lapan hingga 10 berkaitan anjing dan kucing.

“Itu belum termasuk aduan berkaitan anak-anai, serangga perosak, tikus dan lain-lain lagi.

“Dalam melaksanakan tugas, petugas perlu bertindak mengikut aduan diterima sekiranya terdapat kacau ganggu anjing atau kucing liar.

“Ada kalanya, pasukan petugas akan berdepan cabaran seperti provokasi daripada orang awam ketika menjalankan aktiviti kawalan,” katanya ketika dihubungi Harian Metro.

Menurutnya, haiwan ditangkap boleh dituntut pemiliknya dalam tempoh empat hari berserta kompaun dan jika tiada tuntutan, pihaknya akan beri peluang kepada orang awan mengambil menerusi program adopsi.

Beliau berkata, orang ramai yang berminat mengambil haiwan berkenaan bagi tujuan peliharaan boleh ke Unit Kawalan Pest, Lot 24, Jalan Loke Yew 1/93, di sini.

Katanya, mereka bagaimanapun perlu membayar caj mengikut kadar ditetapkan DBKL.

“Seekor kucing yang mahu diambil akan dikenakan caj sebanyak sebanyak RM15 manakala RM35 untuk anjing dewasa dan RM17.50 bagi anak anjing.

“Caj sebanyak RM10 pula dikenakan untuk mendapatkan lesen memelihara anjing dan permohonan boleh dibuat di laman web DBKL.

“Kita adakan program ini bagi mengurangkan populasi haiwan liar dalam komuniti, mengatasi masalah kacau ganggu dan paling utama haiwan terbabit mendapat pembelaan serta peluang untuk dipelihara pemilik baru.

“Selain orang awam, kita turut menyambut baik kesudian beberapa pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO) yang mengambil haiwan ditangkap untuk ditempatkan di pusat perlindungan haiwan mereka,” katanya.

Dalam pada itu, Dr Muhammad Firdaus mengharapkan kerjasama orang awam supaya dapat memelihara anjing dan kucing dengan penuh kasih sayang serta tidak membuangnya ke jalanan selepas enggan memeliharanya lagi.

“Orang awam yang tidak lagi mahu memelihara anjing atau kucing peliharaan boleh menghubungi dan menghantar haiwan peliharaan kepada NGO yang mempunyai tempat perlindungan untuk haiwan itu.

“Sekiranya pemilik haiwan itu ingin berpindah rumah sekalipun, bawalah haiwan peliharaan mereka bersama-sama ke rumah baru.

“Jangan biarkan anjing atau kucing anda sendiri dan terbiar di jalanan. Peliharalah jagalah haiwan peliharaan dengan penuh kasih sayang,” katanya.
