‘Kalki 2898 AD’ director Nag Ashwin reacts to film’s comparison to ‘Dune’

Director Nag Ashwin’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ will hit theatres on June 27. Ahead of that, the filmmaker spoke about the film’s comparisons to the Hollywood film ‘Dune’.Â

At the VFX Summit in Hyderabad, Nag Ashwin was asked why his upcoming movie looked a lot like ‘Dune’ and whether they both had any similarities. Nag replied, “It’s because of the sand. They (another student) noticed the film has sand in it, no? Basically, whenever there’s sand, it’ll look like Dune.”

Meanwhile, the makers announced the new release date with a poster. Other than Prabhas, the movie also features Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in key roles. It was earlier set to release on May 9.Â

On April 27, the makers announced the release date of the highly-anticipated movie with a new poster. The poster featured Prabhas, Deepika and Big B in their respective roles.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is touted to be one of the most-anticipated films of the year.

At a press conference, Nag Ashwin spoke about why he named the film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. He said, “Our film starts in Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. That’s the title of the film. It’s called ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. It spans 6000 years, a sort of distance in time.”

The post-production work of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is currently underway.
