Kaizer Chiefs vs Chippa United head-to-head: Who has the upper hand?

Kaizer Chiefs welcome Chippa United to the FNB Stadium on Saturday with both teams desperate for maximum points on the day.

Kick-off is at 17:30.

Amakhosi head into the encounter in 12th place on the DStv Premiership standings while Chippa United are just behind them in 13th position.

This will be the 19th meeting between Chiefs and Chippa, and The South African takes a look at how the two teams fared against each other in the previous 18 matches.

The first meeting between Chiefs and Chippa was on 29 September 2012, and this was soon after the Gqeberha-based side was promoted to the PSL.

Amakhosi brushed Chippa aside, beating them 2-0 at FNB Stadium, thanks to goals by Tefu Mashamaite and Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Chiefs would go on to dominate this fixture as they went to win three more games against Chippa without even conceding a goal.

The Chilli Boys would end the losing streak against Chiefs with a goalless draw in August 2015 in Gqeberha.

From there onwards, Chippa became a difficult side for Chiefs to beat as they recorded their first win over them in May 2016 – beating them 2-0 at the Calabash.

Overall, Chippa have managed six wins over Chiefs – all of which came after Stuart Baxter’s departure, meaning the 68-year-old hasn’t lost to the Chilli Boys.

Chiefs, on the other hand, have recorded 10 competitive wins over Chippa to demonstrate their dominance.

The Glamour Boys have scored 18 goals in 18 games against Chippa while they have conceded just 13 – and six of those were at home.

There have been two draws between Chiefs and Chippa, and interestingly, both matches ended in goalless draws.

Based on the head-to-head stats above, Chiefs have the upper hand over Chippa United, but will they use that to their advantage?
