laapataa ladies box office collection day 1: kiran rao directorial off to a slow start

Kiran Rao’s directorial Laapataa Ladies, produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, arrived in the theatres on Friday (March 1). The movie, featuring new talents Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Nitanshi Goel along with popular actor Ravi Kishan, opened up to positive reviews. However, despite the reactions, the movie failed to open well at the box office. It minted less than Rs 1 crore on its release day.

Laapataa Ladies Box Office Collection Day 1

As per early estimates, Laapataa Ladies only earned Rs 0.65 crore at the box office on day 1.

While this is a slow start, industry experts are positive that word of mouth will help the film grow in the coming days.

Laapataa Ladies Review

Set in 2001, in rural India, this Kiran Rao directorial is about two young brides who get separated during a train journey.

We gave this film 4/5 stars. Our in-house critic wrote, “Kiran Rao approaches the subject lightly, keep it goofy, and presents a back-handed critique of the system that men and women have created in the name of society. She does not get preachy, finger-pointy or melodramatic. The comedy in Laapataa Ladies is also restrained, not allowing it to tilt towards slapstick. You do burst out laughing in certain scenes, but she doesn’t want to evoke the ha-has, really. She wants to show you the farce and follies of our own system, and tell a kissa, hoping you will find the kahaani behind it.”

Celebs like Sidharth Malhotra, Kajol, Radhika Apte and others had also praised the film.
