Justice Department's antitrust division forms task force on health care monopolies and collusion
Scott, that’s right. The Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division is now announcing a new task force on what they’re calling health care monopolies and collusion. This sounds like it is going to be a very wide-ranging effort in the healthcare industry by the antitrust division. Just take a listen to what they’re talking about in this press release in terms of what this new task force is going to do. They say it’s going to consider widespread competition concerns shared by patients, healthcare professionals, business and entrepreneurs, including payer, provider consolidation, serial acquisitions. Labor and quality of care, medical billing, health care, IT services, access to and misuse of health care data and more. So a very wide-ranging new Department of Justice task force here on what they’re calling health care monopolies and collusion from the Department of Justice. I interviewed Jonathan Cantor, the head of the antitrust division on CNBC a couple weeks ago, Scott, and he was signaling then that healthcare was a big area of interest for them. So I think this should be on the radars of all the people in that industry. Certainly this afternoon, Scott, no doubt. Amen. Thank you for that very important news. Amen. Jarvis in Washington.
