Severe snow warnings have been issued as temperatures are set to drop this morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow across Bath, Gloucester, Worcester and Hereford.

It will came into place at 6am remain until 10am today.

Forecasters warned the brief spell of snow can lead to tricky driving conditions in the affected areas.

Ice will also remain a hazard as temperatures are expected to remain around 2C.

The Met Office said: ‘A brief spell of snow leading to tricky driving conditions in a few places. Rain will turn to snow at times this morning.

‘Not everywhere will see snow, and it may not settle on roads in some places. However, a few spots could see 1 to 3 cm accumulate.

‘From mid morning any snow should turn to rain or die out, with lying snow thawing rapidly.’

Fears are now growing the ice and snow will melt and cause flooding.

There are 150 flood alerts and warnings in place across the country, with the majority in the South West of England.

Areas for particular concern include Wylye Valley at Warminster, Wiltshire, Curry Moor and Hay Moor in Somerset and the Hooke in rural Dorset.

The Met Office said: ‘A cold start with some frost. Generally unsettled with showers, these persistent at times, with snow possible in the morning.

‘Some brighter interludes away from showers, though cloudy in the north of Scotland with rain. Windy around coasts.’

Tonight, there will also be frequent showers across the north of England, and will spread into Scotland.

Elsewhere will be clear allowing for frost and fog.
