The recent release of the biopic Amar Singh Chamkila has brought renewed attention to the life and legacy of the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.
Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, the film portrays Chamkila’s rise to fame, his groundbreaking music, and the tragic end he met alongside his second wife, Amarjot. But beyond the film, Chamkila’s children have continued his legacy in their own ways.

Chamkila first married Gurmail Kaur in the 1970s and had two daughters, Amandeep Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur. Amandeep chose to live a quiet life away from the spotlight. She faced a challenging childhood after her father’s death, as she took on the responsibility of caring for her mother.
Jaiman Singh Chamkila, like his father, chose a musical career. He is a recording singer-songwriter and live performer, currently residing in Jamalpur, Ludhiana, Punjab.
Kamaldeep Kaur, on the other hand, pursued a music career and is known by her stage name Kamal Chamkila. Now living in Canada, she made her debut with Punjabi singer Raj Brar in the song “Lalkara.”
Chamkila’s second wife, Amarjot, whom he married in the 1980s, bore him two children, Jaiman Singh Chamkila and another child whose identity remains undisclosed. Tragically, the couple’s second child, just 15 days old, passed away shortly after the assassination of their parents.
The biopic Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali, delves into the life of the renowned singer, providing audiences with a glimpse into his music and personal journey. While Chamkila’s legacy lives on in his children’s choices and lives, the film also celebrates his unique contributions to Punjabi music and culture.
