Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy revealed what makes the upcoming superhero sequel different from its first two installments. This marks Levy’s latest collaboration with lead star Ryan Reynolds, after previously working together in Free Guy and The Adam Project.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Levy explained why Deadpool & Wolverine shouldn’t be considered as Deadpool 3, confirming that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was developed to stand out from the first two Deadpool movies. “As far as crafting the Deadpool & Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles,” he said. “It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool & Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”

Levy is directing Marvel Studios’ first R-rated movie from a screenplay co-written by Reynolds, Rhett Rheese, Paul Wernick and Zeb Wells. The ensemble cast will be led by Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as they reprise their respective fan-favorite roles as Wade Wilson/ Deadpool and Logan/ Wolverine from Fox’s now-defunct X-Men film franchise. Joining them are returning Deadpool cast members Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan KapiÄiÄ as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Golden Globe winners Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin are also appearing in the third installment. As seen in the first teaser, the Succession alum will portray a TVA agent, while Corrin is expected to play Cassandra Nova.
Deadpool & Wolverine Will Feature Lots of Marvel Cameos
When Deadpool & Wolverine was officially announced, a number of rumors began to surround the project, including potential cameos.
According to Levy, some of the casting rumors online are true, while some are not. One of the most popular fan speculations about the upcoming movie is that Taylor Swift might appear as Dazzler or Lady Deadpool. Without denying or confirming, Levy continued to respond coyly when asked to address the global pop star’s rumored cameo. “That is hardly confirmed nor denied in this interview. I’m going to literally walk out of the frame and save myself, otherwise Ryan’s taking a hit [out] on me,” he teased. “All that’s known is that I went to a football game, and those hours were well-documented and that’s all I’m gonna say. What can I say? I think intrigue is fun.”
