Jordan Spieth: It sucks losing to Scottie Scheffler
Jordan Spieth was very candid ahead of the CJ Cup. Byron Nelson this week about how he feels about Scottie Scheffler and what it’s meant to their relationship to see Scheffler overtake him in the world of golf. I’m Ryan Balangir with Golf News Net. Spieth was very honest Dallas kid talking about this relationship that he’s long had with Scotty Scheffler, going back to the both their days as much younger players. And now the Scheffler is the world number one and the dominant player in Professional Golf. He is overtaking Spieth. And their relationship competitively, and Spieth spokes candidly about that and what it means to him. Saying I’m constantly seeing it and trying to beat him at home when they practice together and when he’s playing better than I am. It sucks. I don’t enjoy it when I’m side by side because there were however many years of our life when it wasn’t that way. It’s flipped and I feel like I’ve got plenty of runway to be able to get it back. End Quote. So while at the same time, Spieth doesn’t like the idea of being beaten by someone who used to beat regularly in the Junior Golf circuit and before they turn professional together at different stages of their lives. He is still inspired by the guy, and he spoke very highly of, Scheffler said. He’s an even better person than a golfer and that he is ultimately an inspiration and that uniquely, this is the first time in Speed’s life where he has felt inspired, professionally or otherwise, by someone who is younger than him, that he’s always been inspired by someone who’s older, who’s gone before him, who’s lived more life than he has. And in Scheffler, he has found an inspiration that is younger than him, and so he’s hopeful that the work that he’s putting in his game will allow him. And Scheffler to play great golf at the same time. But we all know in a competitive sport like golf, there’s really only one winner. And the winner most frequently as of late in the world of Professional Golf is Scotty Scheffler.
