Jefte AGREES Rangers transfer as Brazilian awaits APOEL green light for Ibrox switch

jefte agrees rangers transfer as brazilian awaits apoel green light for ibrox switch

Jefte of APOEL

Brazilian left back Jefte has agreed a deal to join Rangers.

Philippe Clement has been on the hunt for a left back this window and looks to have found his man in the 20-year-old. Currently on loan in Cyprus at APOEL Nicosia, where he is a teammate of former Gers flop Dalcio, from Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense, with whom the Light Blues have struck a deal. However, he now needs permission from APOEL to leave their training camp and jet to Glasgow.

He would offer a long term solution in the left back area for Clement. Borna Barisic has been first choice for the past six years since joining from Osijek. However, the Croat is out of contract in the summer and expected to move on. Ridvan Yilmaz was supposed to be the successor after Gio van Bronckhorst shelled out £3.4 million – rising to £5m – to bring him in from Besiktas. However, a lack of form and fitness have seen the Turk mostly on the bench, and Galatasaray are interested in taking him back to the Super Lig.

That may well happen once Jefte signs on the dotted line. He would become Clement’s third addition of the January window after Fabio Silva’s loan capture from Wolves and Mohamed Diomande, who penned a long-term deal after making the move from Nordsjaelland on Friday.
