Johannesburg Water to implement emergency 13-hour shutdown
Johannesburg Water will conduct unplanned 13-hour maintenance, which will affect several suburbs, on Thursday, 2 May.
The maintenance is scheduled to start at 9:00 on Thursday and end at 22:00 the same day.
JOHANNESBURG WATER TO CONDUCT MAINTENANCE
Johannesburg Water said teams will conduct the unplanned maintenance to remove a faulty 600mm butterfly valve from the system on the outlet of reservoir 2.
The maintenance will last for 13 hours from 9:00 – 22:00 and will affect the following areas:
- Randpark Ridge
- Bushill A.H
- Boksruin
- Bromhof
- Northwold
- Boschkop
- Parts of Honeydew
The water utility said water tankers will be provided when the maintenance exceeds the stipulated time.
Johannesburg Water teams will also conduct planned maintenance from 8:00 – 19:00 on Tuesday, 7 May to decommission old midblock pipelines.
The maintenance will affect the following streets in Meadowlands:
- Pooe
- Kgaye
- Elliot
- Quphe
- Mabasotho
- Ndabezitha
- Maliwa
- Hadebe
- Mohale
- Nobanda
- Percy
- Khumalo
- Molefe
- Phakathi
- Ntintili
- November
- Mpotso
- Neku
- Carr
- Ramushu
“Water tankers will be provided when the planned work exceeds stipulated time,” Johannesburg Water said.
PLANS TO TACKLE SUPPLY CHALLENGES IN THE CITY
Following prolonged water outages due to various reasons, Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said they remain committed to providing quality water and sanitation services to the residents of the city. Furthermore, the entity is focusing on initiatives to boost resilience and sustainable recovery.
“We are committed to exploring alternative models to maximise the provision of quality water and sanitation services, while also prioritising initiatives that will enhance our resilience and foster sustainable recovery,” Shabalala said.
Shabalala said the Infrastructure Investment Programme will focus on renewal and refurbishment projects, emphasising preventative maintenance.
This proactive approach will help to enhance the resilience of the city’s water and sanitation infrastructure, reducing the risk of failures and interruptions in service delivery.
Additionally, the Water Services Programme will also ensure prompt response to interruptions and bursts. This programme aims to reduce leaks and address sewer blockages quickly, minimising the impact on residents and businesses.
