Joe Aribo handed Rangers 'red card' evaluation as pundits issue Ryan Porteous tackle double standards verdict

Asia's Tech News Daily

Joe Aribo has been branded “fortunate” to avoid a red card against Rangers for a crunching tackle on Ryan Porteous.

The Ibrox playmaker was booked by Don Robertson for a challenge on Cammy Devlin during the top of the table showdown with Hearts.

It has sparked comparisons from pundits to Hibs star Porteous red card offence against the Scottish Premiership champions earlier this month.

Porteous was given his marching orders in the first half by Nick Walsh for a reckless challenge on Aribo.

The challenge was been heavily debated by over the use of “excessive force” by the Scotland under-21 cap.

Tam McManus has taken aim at the reaction of Rangers fans to the two tackles – accusing the punters of double standards over the lunge.

The former Hibs striker took to Twitter, stating: “I got sent hundreds of screen shots last week from Rangers fans slaughtering the Porteous tackle.

“Every angle on the planet! Shocker. Leg breaker.

“Weirdly not received a single still photo of the Joe Aribo tackle today from any Rangers fans. Not one.”

Pundit Michael Stewart reckons the Nigeria international did get away with one as whistler Robertson only booked the official.

However, he conceded he would not have shown a straight red to the Rangers man.

Stewart said: “Now I’ve seen it I think Aribo is fortunate as he could easily have been shown a red but I personally think the ref got this one right with only a yellow.

“It’s a little ironic seeing some who screamed about Porteous being a vicious red card but now having to defending this tackle.”
